Description:

By now, most people are well aware of the drinking water crisis that emerged in Flint, Michigan when residents were exposed to high lead levels due to corrosion and leaching. Litigation and resolution of the problems have been ongoing and expensive.

Historically, most fines for contaminated water issues have been levied against community water services (CWSs) rather than industry, but given the additional scrutiny by federal and state agencies after events like the Flint water crisis and recent amendments to Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), private companies now need to develop strategies to address potential contaminated water exposures.

If your organization uses chemicals, especially suspected carcinogens, you will need to look closely at the impact of those chemicals on groundwater particularly groundwater that is a source of drinking water and the discharges from your facilities. It is vital to make sure you are in full compliance with all permit requirements or risk facing expensive fines and legal liabilities.

Join us when David Scriven-Young, Senior Counsel at Peckar & Abramson, will provide participants with a clear understanding of how industry can best develop and implement a program that addresses these heightened regulatory concerns related to safe drinking water and reduces your exposure to costly enforcement and lawsuits due to noncompliance.

You’ll learn:

  • Assess the key drinking water regulations that can impact your organization
  • Consider recent drinking water related violations and litigation such as Flint, MI; Gold King Mine, CO; and New Hampshire vs. Exxon
  • Assess possible regulatory and legal exposures relating to drinking water that may impact your organization
  • Develop and implement a program that reduces your organization’s liability and assures compliance
  • Present key findings to senior management in order to gain understanding and support
