Description:

Tracking safety performance is critical to continual improvement and success. And, having a well-planned and executed EHS program can effectively motivate and drive performance, reduce accidents and incidents, drive down related costs such as workers’ compensation, and increase productivity and morale.

But, many organizations still struggle to identify measurements that have a strong correlation with successful safety performance—and it’s no wonder why.

There are many important questions to address, such as:

  • What should you be measuring?
  • How can you use your measurements to improve EHS performance?
  • What balance of leading and lagging measures is right for your organization?
  • How do you make sure that multiple departments, from the C-suite to manufacturing, engineering, and legal, are using your EHS measurement process to drive continuous improvement for the organization?
Join us to find out how to make your EHS metrics program an integral component of your company’s established performance tracking process.

Attorney Barry Spurlock, CSP will provide a clear and proven approach for selecting and implementing EHS metrics that not only accurately measure performance but drive the metrics in the right direction.

Learning Objectives:
  • Assess the limitations and meaningful application of trailing measures
  • Create balance in safety performance measurement systems, including between leading and lagging measures and among leading measures, such as activity and outcome measures
  • Select and use EHS measures that drive success
  • Identify proven strategies for creating and improving leading measurement systems
  • Include benchmarking considerations in your EHS measurement systems
  • Consider important perspectives for using audit results as a key measure of safety performance improvement
  • Decide which EHS measures make the most sense to track and why they have the greatest impact on your company’s safety and health program
  • Use leading measures to motivate, drive performance, and foster continuous improvement
  • Assess the value of qualitative EHS measures and learn why safety professionals must resist pressures to avoid them
  • Communicate effectively when discussing your EHS performance factors with CEOs, CFOs, COOs, and boards of directors
