Electrical Safety Training

Electricity is all around us. It lights up our homes...powers much of the machinery and equipment that we use...and runs many of our tools. We are so used to it, most employees "take it for granted."

Yet electricity can also be dangerous, and has long been recognized as a serious workplace hazard. To help protect employee, OSHA created electrical standards that are designed to protect employees exposed to dangers such as electric shock, electrocution, fires, and explosions.

The law requires that all electrical work practices must comply with applicable sections of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Fire Protection
Association (NFPA), National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code,
and State adopted electrical codes.

Electrical Safety Standards

OSHA's electrical standards are based on the National Fire Protection Association Standards NFPA 70, National Electric Code, and NFPA 70E, Electrical Safety Requirements for Employee Workplaces.

NFPA 70E requirements for safe work practices to protect personnel by reducing exposure to major electrical hazards.

Originally developed at OSHA's request, NFPA 70E helps companies and employees avoid workplace injuries and fatalities due to shock, electrocution, arc flash, and arc blast, and assists in complying with OSHA 1910 Subpart S and OSHA 1926 Subpart K, and cover everything from electrical safety standards to signage to personal protective equipment (PPE).
